As long as your bike helmet is dry and your HELMMATE is dry, you can leave it in the cover all year round. Is your HELMMATE wet, however, we recommend that you place your bike in a sheltered area and let your cover hang loose out of the plastic case for it to dry properly, while also hanging your bike helmet to dry.
Easily. It is quite simple to mount the HELMMATE on most saddles (see which ones under the heading “Does HELMMATE fit on all saddles” below).
You do the following: Put the nut in the small hole in the upper bracket, put the bracket on the bracelets under the saddle and tighten the Allen screw through the nut as indicated in the user manual. Make sure the screw is tightened gently.
Adjust the inner elastic band to ensure the HELMMATE fits your saddle. You do this by adjusting the band until the cover sits firmly on your saddle when the HELMMATE is in use.
Now your HELMMATE is mounted and ready to use.
TIP: If you have trouble getting the upper bracket in place under the saddle, i.e. when mounting a child saddle, you can loosen the two bracelets and then pull the saddle backwards to make more space for mounting the HELMMATE.
There are few saddle models where the HELMMATE cannot be mounted. A precondition for mounting is that the saddle is mounted with two bracelets under the saddle. Most saddles use this patent; not all, however, and on those saddles, it is not possible to mount the HELMMATE. Also, the saddle cannot be larger than l 27 cm * w 21 cm * h 2 cm (if saddle is shorter than 27 cm it can be accordingly thicker or broader). See also illustration below.
The HELMMATE cover is water resistant, but not water proof. The reason for this is that it is necessary to allow for breathability of the cover if your helmet is left inside the HELMMATE for longer periods of time. The material is similar to what you know from most rain jackets or tents. It will keep out most showers, but during extensive downpours, there is a risk that the helmet will become wet.
Yes. The HELMMATEmini is made for bike helmets smaller than 53 cm.
Yes. On most bikes with a child seat mounted on top of the rear wheel, there will be room for both HELMMATE and child. HELMMATE still allows the child to sit comfortably in the seat. However, there may be models or specific fittings that will make it a bit cramped. If in doubt, try to measure – HELMMATE is, when not in use, approximately 7 cm. deep and 17,5 cm wide.
HELMMATE weights 330 grams and when the cover is inside the case, it measures w 17,5 cm * h 6,5 cm * d 7 cm. The cover on HELMMATE (helmets from circumference of 53 cm) has a diameter Ø of 43 cm, while the HELMMATEmini (helmets circumference 52 cm or smaller) has a diameter Ø of 40cm.
There is a pad lock included when you buy your HELMMATE. You can lock it in two ways:
1. By putting the lock through the two rings in the same way you would do on your suit case (Picture to the left below).
2. By putting the lock through the helmet strap as well as indicated on the picture to the right. In this way, you make it even more troublesome for someone to steel your helmet, but with the risk of soaking the strap in case of rain.
Yes. There is a small manual enclosed with the pad lock describing how to do this. In short, you just push in the lock when code is set to open (see picture) and choose the 3-digit code of your preference. Now you have your new code. If you want to change the code at a later time, just repeat this procedure.
Currently, you can only have your HELMMATE in one color.
